Although it’s still in Early Access, Risk of Rain 2 is picking up more and more players each week! Risk of Rain 2 entered into Early Access on March 28th, 2019 and is a co-op rogue-like. Besides making the jump from a 2D game to 3D, Hopoo Games’ sequel features a lot of returning characters and items from the original Risk of Rain, and they have already added a ton of new content that didn’t exist in the original. The basic gameplay loop is straightforward - kill bad guys, earn currency, buy random loot in an attempt to become godlike. Reviews from Steam have been ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ since its release and through its first major content patch, which was released on July 3rd, 2019. Since it is still in Early Access, the system requirements may change throughout development, but it should also be noted that although early levels can be playable on older hardware, the game does pick up in its demand from your computer as you progress further and encounter more enemies at the same time.

This amped-up multiplayer game demands a fair amount from players’ computers, even when looking at the minimum specifications which are significantly higher than other roguelikes like Enter the Gungeon. Once you get enough Unstable Tesla Coils or Ukuleles stacked, Risk of Rain 2 can grind to a standstill if you don’t have the proper hardware. Your computer will need at least a GeForce GTX 580 or Radeon HD 7870 just to pass the minimum GPU requirements. Hopoo Games state that you only need 4 GB of RAM to pass the minimum (and recommended for that matter) specs, but it can’t hurt to have 8-16 GB if you plan on pushing a round past 3 hours. An Intel Core i3-6100 or AMD FX-8350 will put your PC right at the minimum CPU requirement which is more on par with other games’ recommended specs, like ONE PIECE World Seeker. If your computer barely passes the minimum requirements test, then you will most likely need to turn the graphics settings down, especially the setting that caps the number of enemy corpses left on the battlefield.

Once you reach godlike level around the hour, hour and a half mark, the amount of action taking place on your screen can be an absolute thing of beauty. From Giant Magma Worms flying through the level to massive chain lightning procs from your Ukuleles, Risk of Rain 2 can put a heavy strain on your computer so it is vital that your PC passes the recommended requirements if you want to crank the graphics up and maintain a steady FPS. The recommended video cards are only a generation newer than the minimum GPUs, so you’ll need a GeForce GTX 680 or Radeon HD 7970 to pass. Despite releasing over seven years ago, Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 680 can still run over 90% of computer games out there. Only the upper echelon of CPUs will be able to pass recommended requirement since it is set at the Intel Core i5-4670K and the AMD Ryzen 5 1500X. Risk of Rain 2 also requires that you have a 64-bit OS that is Windows 7 or newer.
